Wine Wednesday | Airfield Merlot 2016

wine-15

After trying the Airfield Sauvignon Blanc last week, we went with the Airfield Merlot this week!

On vivino.com, this vintage rates better than any other year for this wine.
This was also a really good wine.  On the drier side, which I like.

More and more, I’m thinking that a trip to their estate should be in order!

As we shared last week, Airfield Estates was used for a flight school during World War II.
20 plus years later, they turned the land into a vineyard.
Check out part of the story, which is posted on their website:

“As the name suggests, Airfield Estates has ties to aviation. Prior to our farming days, a portion of our property operated as a training base for hundreds of Army Air Corps pilots during World War II. After the war, we began farming in the outlying area. To this day, we continue to use a few of the original airplane hangars as farm storage facilities, and we strive to pay tribute to those WWII heroes and veterans of our country with our wide range of 100% estate grown wines.”
