Anyone needing in need of community peace officer services in High Level can get in touch with someone anytime of the year.

The Town of High Level announced it is putting a new dispatch system in place so that someone calling the line can speak to a person any time of day.

Mayor Crystal McAteer feels the service will be a benefit to the community.

“Personally, I like speaking to a person instead of a recording,” says McAteer. “That way, if there are questions, they can be answered right away. Information left on a recording can be misinterpreted, so I am pleased that High Level citizens will now have a much better system.”

Community Peace Officer Sargent, Mark Rushton, explains the new system.

“We reviewed analytics over the last, approximately, three years and we developed a call priority system based on the different types of calls we primarily receive,” says Rushton.

“The dispatchers are trained in our call priority sequence and developed software around that. So based on certain keywords and complaints, it will prompt the dispatcher to ask certain questions to gather the pertinent information.”

Rushton added that the program will cost approximately $2,500 a year to use.

He also pointed out this new system will help because many calls would be put through to peace officers who may not be in a position to take information at that time.

“If we are in the middle of a call, we would not be able to get all the correct information in the past. This will improve that.”
