Tim and the Glory Boys have gotten creative with their upcoming song “Skate.” The upcoming song is the same beat as their top 10 song “Float” but the lyrics changed from floating on a river to skating and winter lyrics. This isn’t a new thing as Dan Davidson took his song “Warm Beer” and changed the lyrics to support the Oilers quest for the cup during the last playoffs, and Paul Brandt even earlier took “Canadian Man” and rewrote some lyrics to reflect the men’s gold medal wins at the 2002 Winter Olympics and at the 2010 Winter Olympics. Where Tim and the Glory Boys are making new strides is in the full board release of “Skate.”

If you are like me it is hard to listen to songs about the summer time in -20 degree weather, and you do not get a lot if any songs positive about the winter. Usually winter songs are used as metaphors or similes for cold harsh times and not upbeat and fun.  While it would be nice to get a completely new beat, it is smart as you can play “Float” in the spring and summer, and play “Skate” in the colder fall and winter months.

The song is set to be out Friday and from the preview clips they have shown on social media, it sounds like a good fun song for the winter time.
