This weekend on Rising Stars the headliner was Stephanie Merkus with her new song “Ain’t No Cowboy.” Stephanie who comes from near Edmonton now calls Calgary home where she moved for her job, which she has left to pursue music full time. Stephanie is someone who is over a year sober as well as makes her faith a big part of not only her life but her music as well. The young singer-songwriter is doing her thing with her country-pop sound.
“Ain’t No Cowboy” has roots for Stephanie and her co-writer Chard Morrison being at the Calgary Stampede and noticing a lot of “fake cowboys” or “10 day cowboys.” Also drawing inspiration from an ex-boyfriend of hers. It is a fun song with interesting stories behind it.
