This weekends headliner is our very first International one in Katy Hurt and her song “Oh Girl.” Katy is an emerging talent from the UK, who grew up in part in the US, and has at times resided in Canada, primarily in Winnipeg for stretches. I have enjoyed Katy’s music since I was preparing to interview her back in 2021 at the CCMAs in London, ON, and if the music wasn’t enough I certainly became a fan talking with her. Katy is someone who has explored many sides of country music, but was that a plan or a happy accident.
“Oh Girl” is a song she wrote a few years back while completing the recording of her album (in Winnipeg), that was inspired by a friend of hers who was struggling at the time. It wasn’t until after the song was recorded did Katy realize how much of herself was in the song, that was co-written with Murray Pulver (the songs producer), Gab Zsapka, and Rhianna Rae Saj.
