This weekend on River Country Rising Stars the headliner was Jolene Harnish and her new single “One Road Town.” Jolene like a number of our headliners in the past hails from the east coast, in this case Nova Scotia. Despite the fact she is in country music with a name like Jolene, it didn’t come from the song, but that hasn’t stopped many of people serenading her with the legendary Dolly tune over the years. Coming from the small community and a musical family it has allowed Jolene to create and craft unique songs and provide great story telling.
“One Road Town” comes after a couple singles like “Blueberries” and “Eat the Cake,” ending a streak of food inspired name titles, and yes we discussed that. The song “One Road Town” is inspired by her hometown of Canso, NS and one that many coming from small towns can easily relate to. The idea of wanting to experience more and having the ability to look back at where you came from is a universal feeling that isn’t just for those from one road towns.
