This weekend on Rising Stars the headliner was Alli Walker and her new song “Kitchen Floor.” Alli is a CCMA nominated singer-songwriter originally from P.E.I. and has moved around the country quite a bit before now residing in Nashville. Over the last year or so Alli was began making a bigger name for herself with songs like “Whiskey’s Gone,” “Creek,” “Nashville” and one River Country listeners will be familiar with “I Like Big Trucks.” Alli was brought up on stage in NFLD at a festival after opening for Shania Twain to perform with the Canadian Country Queen, with her electric bagpipe. The song “I Like Big Trucks” took on a life of it’s own without being officially released to radio and has help given this emerging talent a name for people leading to this being her first big radio release since signing with RECORDS Nashville (Sony). Alli was a nominee for Female Artist of the Year at the CCMA’s this past year only raising her growing profile.
Amongst her many moves it included a moving in with her in-laws out on Vancouver Island, in a heritage house. Seeing and living in the house Alli became inspired by a conversation with her mother in-law which would become the new single “Kitchen Floor.” The song is a nostalgic and personal song about looking back on the memories your childhood home holds, specifically the scratches and dents that were left on the kitchen floor.
Check out my conversation with Alli:
