Amazon has given us the first look at Madden, a movie about former Super Bowl winning coach, football analyst and football game pioneer John Madden. The movie has some fun casting including the eccentric Nicolas Cage as John Madden and academy award winning actor Christian Bale as Al Davis the eccentric former owner of the then Oakland Raiders.
The movies synopsis is: After being forced into retirement by the Oakland Raiders, fiery former NFL head coach John Madden teams up with a mild-mannered Harvard programmer to rewrite his fading legacy by building the world’s first football video game.
The movie is scheduled for a 2026 release and will be interesting to see as it can be hard to imagine Cage being anything other than Cage and John Madden had a distinct personality himself. No doubt what Bale will do as Al Davis, I just want to hear him nail the iconic phrase “Just Win Baby” that is synonymous with Davis. It will be good for a new generation to know the legacy of John Madden outside of being the namesake for the most popular football video game franchises and one of the most popular sports video game franchises in history.
