A fun Action Film!
Transformers: Rise of the Beasts is the newest Transformers film. It takes place after the successful Bumblebee movie but before all of the Micheal Bay films. So, if you haven’t been caught up with all of the other movies this one is totally fine to jump into. They only make one reference to the Bumblebee movie, and if you haven’t seen it like my friend who watched it with me, it made no difference.
The film follows the Autobots as they team up with the Maximals which are robots that turn into animals instead of cars along with a couple of humans to stop the villains that are threatening the world. They brought back the Maximals from the animated beast wars cartoon but they seemed underutilized throughout the film. Considering it’s called Rise of the Beasts it was mostly an Autobot story.
The transformers all look great throughout the film. If you want to see shiny metal robots blast other metal robots this movie has got it. A problem with it looking good is I visually winced every time they had a fight. The robots were just tearing up countryside and city blocks and buildings during battles. I know it adds to the action but…”Do you know how long it’s gonna take to get that pristine road repaved Optimus Prime!!!”
To my knowledge, Bumblebee has always been the fun comic relief character and as of these movies, he is limited to talking through voice clips. Which has its own charm but we have been missing a fun character.
Introducing Mirage, the great new character with a fun personality that is the star of the show. He is the first Autobot our human character meets and is pals with from then on. There is a lot of good banter from him throughout the film.
My other problem with the film was a couple plot points throughout the movie that didn’t make a whole lot of sense. If you can suspend just a little disbelief to have some fun the movie is definitely more enjoyable.
The end plot twist also came out of left field and I am really curious about how this leads into the next movie.
Below is the trailer I feel like this one doesn’t give too much away so give it a watch if you’re still on the fence.
