a Sci-fi flick to make you think.
This week I went and saw the creator in theatres. I enjoyed it and it definitely left me stewing in my thoughts. Especially because of how much of a talking point AI has been as of late.
The movie takes place in the future where AI has advanced to the point of working alongside us and almost behaving like humans. Despite this AI and humanity go to war. It is an endless struggle until it is revealed that there is a weapon to end the war in favour of the AI. So, humanity dispatches a squad to get rid of this weapon once and for all. Our main character Joshua is recruited to the team because of his previous work undercover. While on the mission to find the weapon he discovers that it is actually a young girl which completely changes the mission and the outcome of the war.
I thought the story was really interesting. Although I suspected where the story might end, how we got there I didn’t quite know. I really wasn’t expecting there to be as many twists and turns throughout the journey. They crammed a lot of different concepts in this one film I almost wonder if they had more time to flesh out some of these ideas as a mini-series if that would have been better. There were a few points during the film that I had some questions about. I felt like they weren’t explained quite right or maybe I missed something. Overall I felt like they dealt with a lot and I was not confused about the major plot beats throughout the film, grasping the main story they were trying to tell. which was something a little different than what we have seen before in other films.
The visuals in the movie were great! There were a lot of interesting set pieces and striking moments that stuck with me. The movie also uses a lot of special effects because of the robots, or synthetics, as they call them. The synthetics look almost human but have robotic parts in the back of their heads, as you can see in the trailer I’ve included below. It looks really cool and the whole time I kind of wanted to touch it. The musical score was also really well done and brought a lot of gravitas to situations. It makes sense though, when you realize Hans Zimmer was working on the project.
If you are interested in sci-fi or an interesting story I would recommend giving it a watch I have the trailer below and it does a good job showing you the world and giving you a taste of what the movie deals with.
