The Mighty Peace Basketball League will being their first season on Sunday.

Andrew Ostrowerka, the Vice-President of the League, says they were surprised by the amount of interested they received from players after the league was first announced.

“We were looking for six teams to join the league and I think within five days we had received six teams interested and ready to pay their deposits to get in on the action. We were overwhelmed. We thought we were going to be short and we might have to pressure some guys that we know into putting in a team, but we were very overwhelmed with the interest that we had.”

The six teams will play games every Sunday during May and June at the Mile Zero Multiplex in Grimshaw.

Ostrowerka says they chose to play there because it’s a more “central location” for the Peace Country.

He adds that it will be a short season to start out with.

“Each team will be able to participate in eight league games, and the last two games of those are going to be the playoff games. Each team will get a chance to play all of the other teams, then based off their records that will dictate where they finish and who they’ll play the last two games of the season.”
