UK country singer Katy Hurt has released a new single, the first since “The Kiss,” which came out late August, with “What Have You Got to Lose.” The single is the polar opposite of her last single which was an upbeat almost pop-ish country similar to 90s Faith Hill, whereas her new single is slow tempo and is a bluesy, southern, soulful sounding track. The song allows Katy to showcase her incredibly strong vocal abilities in ways we have yet to see all while continuing to round out her discography with fresh sounds.

“What Have You Got to Lose” was produced by Juno award-winning Murray Pulver which was recorded at Stereobus Studios in Winnipeg.

From this new single we get lyrics that paint a picture of willing to let someone leave and make mistakes or encourages risk taking because you will always be there for them therefore there is nothing lose by taking on the risks. The song acknowledges that to make things work you need more than love so why play it safe.

The length of the song is just shy of 5 minutes in length which is change from most singles these days which tend to stick around 2.5-3.5 minutes in length 4 typically at most. There is an instrumental part midway through the song that is 35-40 seconds in length that adds to the songs length but doesn’t detracted from the song itself.

The song is extremely powerful and allows itself to stands out against others in the genre. Katy continues to grow and experiment with her sound which is something a lot of country artists, especially once they get airplay or begin to make a bit of a name for themselves tend to shy away from. The only detractor with the song is the length but skipping it because of that would be a massive mistake. I mean “What Have You Got to Lose.”

I hope to get to see her perform it live one day with a full band as she good live.

The song is now released on major platforms
