During the Canadian Country Music Week they induct people into the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame and this year the artist getting the call is the trailblazing K.D Lang. The Edmontonian has an impressive resume with a career spanning over four decades. Kathryn Dawn Lang has amassed a remarkable collection of accolades including four Grammy Awards, eight JUNO Awards, ten CCMA Awards including three consecutive wins for “Album of the Year”, and two consecutive “Entertainer of the Year” Awards, a BRIT Award, an AMA, a VMA, four awards from GLAAD, and was recognized in 1996 with Canada’s highest civilian honour, the Order of Canada. Back in 2013 Lang was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame as well in recent years received the  Alberta Order of Excellence Award in 2021 and the Governor General’s Performing Arts Lifetime Achievement Award in 2023.

Biggest question I have is what took the CCMA this long to induct one of our own who became a massive success beyond our borders? Maybe they were waiting for the awards where she will be honored to be back in her home town of Edmonton.

“I am beyond thrilled, and frankly pleasantly surprised to be honored in this way,” says lang. She adds, “my love for the prairies, the people and our culture underscore every ounce of my inspiration. Not without its complexities, I might add. Such is life. I am so stoked to be coming to Edmonton to bask in this celebration… with deepest gratitude.”
