Friday 5 – Remaining Movie Releases For 2023

letters-abc-alphabet-journal-1

For this weeks Friday 5 I am looking at what movies that are slated to come out in the last 2 months of the year. With the acting strike over 100 days and the writing one having concluded it has cause movie delays and reshuffling. Here are 5 movies with still set for release you should keep an eye out for.

5. Wish

A Disney animated movie that seems to have slipped under the radar, that I am sure has some people anticipating it’s release and parents dreading it. In the Kingdom of Rosas, a 17-year-old girl named Asha senses a darkness that no one else does about the kingdom’s ruler, King Magnifico. This eventually leads to her trying to make a passionate plea to the stars in a moment of need. Soon, an actual star from the sky named Star answers Asha’s wish. The movie only boasts one major name in the voice cast with that being Chris Pine.

The movie is set for a November 22nd release.

4. The Iron Claw

This is a top one for me personally, but The Iron Claw is gaining interest from others as well. The movie is centered around the Von Erich family, a dynasty of wrestlers from the 1960s onwards that had enormous success, and popularized the iron claw professional wrestling hold. However, they not only had to battle inside the ring, but fight the “Von Erich curse” outside of it. Zac Efron stars in the film alongside Jeremy Allen White (Shameless (US) and The Bear) in the film.

It is plotted on the release schedule for December 22nd.

3. Trolls Band Together

Back to the kids and some  adults for this musical adventure that is set to complete a trilogy of Trolls films. Who would have thought the Trolls dolls would have this kind of draw power. After two films of true friendship and relentless flirting, Poppy and Branch are now officially, finally, a couple (#broppy)! As they grow closer, Poppy discovers that Branch has a secret past. He was once part of her favorite boyband phenomenon, BroZone, with his four brothers: Floyd, John Dory, Spruce and Clay. BroZone disbanded when Branch was still a baby, as did the family, and Branch hasn’t seen his brothers since. But when Branch’s bro Floyd is kidnapped for his musical talents by a pair of nefarious pop-star villains, Velvet and Veneer. Branch and Poppy embark on a harrowing and emotional journey to reunite the other brothers and rescue Floyd from a fate even worse than pop-culture obscurity. The movie boasts the most notable cast given the musical cast members alone. Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake are back as is Zooey Deschanel with names like Camila Cabello, Kid Cudi, Eric André  and RuPaul joining the franchise

Trolls Band Together has already been released in Denmark but yet to get a release everywhere else until November 17th.

2. Napoleon

The movie that is certain to have Oscar buzz that is left to come out is Napoleon. The film depicts Napoleon’s rise to power through the lens of his volatile relationship with Empress Joséphine. With Joaquin Phoenix  in the title role and Vanessa Kirby (Hobbs & Shaw and Mission Impossible Series) as Joséphine with Ridley Scott in the directors chair this is sure to be a historical epic film.

It is set for a November 22nd release.

1. Wonka

While this one isn’t a priotrity for me I know the excitement level is high for many as we are set to see Willy Wonka and his rise to the level of fame he has in the other movies. The story of how Willy Wonka went from a young adult selling chocolate in a small candy store to an eccentric genius known all over the world. Timothée Chalamet is playing Willy Wonka, Hugh Grant as an Oompa-Loompa and names like Keegan-Michael Key, Rowan Atkinson (Mr. Bean) in the cast won’t hurt. Their are some other notable names of actors but they have their fame in the UK and not in North America.

Wonka is set to be released December 8th in the UK and December 15th in the US, so North American audiences may find out more about the film and it’s success or flop earlier than planned.
