In the build up to Canada Day I thought let’s do some Canadian Friday 5’s. I figure it would be a good plan to start with animals found in the great white north. I am a big animal lover with an affinity for trying to photograph them. So far only really luck with a moose, some orcas and of course deer but I am working on it.
Here is my list of top 5 favourite Canadian animals:
5. Moose
Hard to have a list of Canadian animals and not include the mighty Moose. You gotta love and appreciate these gentle animals unless you piss them off. There is just something about them you gotta love or maybe it was preconditioning with Elliot Moose. This is the only animal on my list the I find delicious to eat.
4. Polar Bear
This was a toss up between the polar bear and the mighty grizzly but I went with the polar bear. Polar Bears are just awesome from their size to their senses. I have always admired them when I would visit the Toronto Zoo growing up, sadly have not had the chance to seen them in the wild but it an animal I would travel to try and see and try to photograph.
3. Wolverine
The animal that inspired on of the best comic book characters of all-time and is even better. The Wolverine is small but feisty animal is known for being elusive and aggressive and can single handily take down bigger prey despite its size. You gotta love these animals.
2. Canada Lynx
Well the name tells you it is Canadian doesn’t it ? These have always been a favourite animal of mine and has been thought of for a tattoo. The Lynx is just awesome and I mean they tend to hunt snowshoe hares but the lynx will prey on small mammals, birds and sometimes even large animals like caribou … CARIBOU !!! I mean how could a Canadian Lynx not be on the list.
1. Orca
Taking the top spot is an animal I grew up seeing at Marineland and loved to see. Yes I know Marineland is evil, but when I was little I didn’t know that. I have been fortunate to see Orcas in the wild and snap some photos of them. There is just something about them that is just majestic not to mention sharks are scared of them and are apex predators, which tend to love humans, well wild ones tend to. You have to see them in the wild to truly take in how spectacular they are.
Next week I will have another Canadian themed Friday 5 in the build up to Canada Day.
