Cindy Hockley wins by-election for vacant seat on Berwyn Council

The Village of Berwyn has a new member of council with political experience. Cindy Hockley won last night’s by-election. “It’s rewarding,” says Hockley. “The people believe you can help them out in some way and it’s good that they have that trust in me.”

Hockley says this is not her first time as a councillor for the village. She was part of the debate a couple of years ago deciding if Berwyn would remain a village or not. She wants to take a collaborative approach with her colleagues with the goal of growing the community. “I look forward to working with other councillors on the viability of the community,” states Hockley. “I hope we can keep people here and build a stronger community.” Hockley also says she is a strong advocate of shopping locally. “I think the stats say that for every dollar you spend in the community is five dollars more that goes into the community.”

The by-election process may not be over in Berwyn. Village Chief Administrative Officer, Greg Gayton, tells the Trending 55 Newsroom that there is another vacancy on council. Gayton says only one candidate has submitted their nomination papers so far. The deadline to put your name forward is this coming Monday at noon.
