The new trailer for the upcoming Superman movie has come out and for me it makes me want to skip the film. Now why would I want to do that? Well that is because in true comic/superhero fashion we aren’t getting a proper movie anymore but what appears to be a movie jammed with secondary heroes rather than just making a good film. The emphasis of a cinematic universe is what is killing the genre, rather than looking at how Marvel originally created the MCU, both Marvel and DC want to shoehorn everything they can into a movie. Say what you will about Man of Steel, like it or hated it, it was a Superman movie, darker sure but nevertheless the Superman, stand alone solo film.
The writer and director is James Gunn, who was a co-writer and director of Guardians of the Galaxy, was tapped to change the fate of the DCEU after the disaster that followed Batman vs Superman. James Gunn created The Suicide Squad ( or Suicide Squad 2) and that was met with some good reviews but failed to generate money, whether pandemic related or not it failed to bring in the big bucks.
I just want to see standalone comic books movies and what is a prime opportunity to reintroduce Superman is already just cramming in other characters rather than establishing the hero in this film series on his own. I feel this will lead to a overbooked film that will lead to another failure for Warner Bros. and DC Comic films.
