Where did 17 kids go?
Weapons tells the tale of a class of students that one day went missing…all but one. At 2:17 one night, 17 kids got up out of bed and ran into the darkness, never to be seen again. Where did they go? What happened… well, that’s the mystery.
I enjoyed this movie, and I think technically it is considered horror, but if you are adverse to typical horror with jump scares, I think you might actually enjoy this. Weapons focuses a lot more on the mystery of these kids, and we follow a non-linear story from multiple characters’ perspectives as they try to piece together what happened, and we get to see more and more of the mystery unfold. I liked the way it was told, and you get to slowly fill in the blanks as the movie progresses with this type of storytelling.
I appreciate that with a story about disappearing randomly one night, they address how this would work in modern day. Parents even capture their kids running off into the night using their ring cameras and use that to try and solve the mystery. i also want to say that you can see the way that the kids run in the poster and trailer, and it’s just creepy.
There were a lot of big names in the cast. Julia Garner has been appearing in a lot of films this year did a fantastic job as the teacher of the class that disappeared. She was someone who really cared about the students and reminded me of some teachers I knew in that aspect. Despite that, she was still human, and they showed her having flaws, especially after having the whole town against her, which I thought was really real and made her character quite believable.
Overall, I think this movie is worth giving a watch if you are a fan of mysteries with a little horror element, and weapons will be something for you!
