Effective immediately, HFCRD has placed Mr. Brock Whalen on a formal suspension.
On the advice of counsel an investigator has been retained in response to complaints that have been received.
HFCRD continues to offer numerous support services to students and their families.
Additional support workers have been made available.

BACKGROUND
Holy Family Catholic Regional Division is taking the necessary steps to ensure the safety and well-being of all students.
In cooperation with the RCMP, HFCRD recognizes that the alleged incidents that led to the charges against Mr. Brock Whalens, didn’t take place during his time at HFCRD, however immediate action has been taken by the division.
Mr. Whalen has been placed on offsite unassigned duties.
On the advice of legal counsel, further action is pending.
Student support is of the utmost importance, and HFCRD offers numerous support services to students and their families.

RCMP Release:
McLennan RCMP lay charges in sexual offences file
McLennan, Alta. – In June, 2023, McLennan RCMP, assisted by Alberta’s Integrated Child Exploitation Unit, both Central and Western Alberta District (WAD) General Investigation Sections (GIS) and WAD Crime Reduction Unit, responded to a report of sexual offences against a youth. The offences took place while the youth was attending a school in the High Prairie School Division.
On Feb. 7, 2024, Brock Mackenzie Whalen (31), a resident of Peace River, Alta., was charged with:
- Sexual assault;
- Sexual interference;
- Luring a child (x2);
- Making sexually explicit material available to a child; and
- Child exploitation.
Whalen was brought before a justice of the peace and released on conditions. His next court date is set for March 18, 2024, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Peace River.
Whalen has been employed by several school districts in Alberta and Saskatchewan, including the High Prairie School Division, Holy Family Catholic Regional Division, Saskatoon Public School Division (2013 and 2015) and the Lloydminster Public School Division (2014). Parents or guardians who are concerned that that their child(ren) may have been involved in an incident related to this investigation are encouraged to contact their local police.
McLennan RCMP and WAD GIS are still actively investigating this incident.
