Viersen With Several Priorities For New Year

Peace River-Westlock MP Arnold Viersen has some priorities for the new year.

He says he’s heard from several locals about concerns around the carbon tax and government spending.

“The inflation is being felt clear across the country. The fact that groceries are more expensive, the fact that home heating and electricity and all that is becoming unaffordable. The deficit spending is driving all of that and people are seeing that connection for sure and they’re saying that we’ve got to get our fiscal house in order in order for inflation to come down. If inflation comes down, interest rates will come around and our money will be worth something again.”

Viersen says the Conservatives will continue to push the Liberals on removing the carbon tax.

In addition, he plans on introducing a bill in the House of Commons called the Stopping Internet Sexual Exploitation Act.

“It comes out of the ethics committee study that happened just after the New York Times had the article called “The Children of PornHub”. We had a number of people come to committee and they were saying how their images were being put up on PornHub without their consent or their age being verified.”

Viersen adds that this bill would put the onus on companies to provide records of age and consent for people depicted in their videos.
