If another federal election happens this fall, Peace River-Westlock MP Arnold Viersen says the Conservatives are ready to run again.
The Bloc Quebecois has stated that they would introduce a non-confidence motion in the house after Parliament resumes, and Viersen says the Tories would likely support that.
“We’ve been suspicious that there will be a fall election for a long time. It looks like we’ve got a dancing partner in terms of the Bloc being ready to go for an election. It all comes down to the NDP. I imagine that we would support the Bloc in a non-confidence motion, it’s gonna come down to if the NDP supports that motion or not.”
The party recently elected a new leader with Erin O’Toole replacing Andrew Scheer.
Viersen believes that having O’Toole as the party leader will help in getting Alberta’s concerns heard at the federal level.
“We have a strong caucus and he has been somebody that can play well with all of caucus. I know that the Alberta caucus, we’re one of the largest caucuses within the Conservative. I know he will continue to hear our voices and help us have a respected place at the table.
As for the outgoing party leader in Scheer, Viersen says he has “a lot of respect” for what Scheer did for the party.
