A familiar tandem will lead the County of Northern Lights.

The county had its organizational meeting last week for council to elect a reeve, a deputy reeve, and make various committee appointments.

Ward Six Councillor, Terry Ungarian was acclaimed as Reeve, and Brenda Yasinski of Ward Three was acclaimed as Deputy Reeve.

Both are going into their fourth years in their respective roles.

“It’s very flattering and humbling and I appreciate the support of council,” says Ungarian.

“I have a very strong council to work with me.”

Ungarian says the goal of council for the next 12 months will be keeping a close eye on the county’s finances.

“The biggest priority is to keep the budget in line because we have so many external forces working against our fiscal position,” he explains.

“It’s going to take some good planning and some tough decisions to maintain a balanced budget without having to raise taxes.”
