The Town of Peace River’s Spring Cleanup gets underway this weekend.
Art Sawatzky from the Peace Regional Waste Management Company says they usually have it earlier in the year, but the pandemic forced them to move it back.
Sawatzky adds that public health restrictions means there’s a few things they have to do differently this year.
“Normally our staff are pretty good with going and helping people unload their vehicles and trucks and stuff. Due to COVID-19 and the possibility of transferring the virus on surfaces, they won’t be doing that this year. You’ll have to unload yourself.”
Sawatzky also says that they’ve already been fairly busy throughout the springtime.
“There’s been a lot of people at home that would normally be working and we’ve noticed that we’ve been getting a lot more residential traffic. We’re an essential service, so we remained open and our service didn’t really change much. We found that people were using the landfill and all of our transfer stations more than normal.”
