The Town of Peace River will be taking a collaborative approach as it lobbies the province on an expansion at the Mercer site north of town.

Councillor Byron Schamehorn put forward a motion at a previous meeting calling for a discussion on the letter, in which the town asked for the Government of Alberta to consider investing in a $69.9 million wood processing facility.

When the discussion came up at Monday’s council meeting, Schamehorn suggested reaching out to organizations and groups for letters of support that have benefitted from Mercer’s presence in the region.

Councillor Don Good echoed those comments and suggested reaching out to municipal partners.

According to the document shown to council, the grant the town is applying for is the Emissions Reduction Alberta Grant for shovel ready projects.

The town is currently in the second round of the application phase, which includes letters of support from stakeholders.
