The High Level Fire Department and its Protective Services Director are being recognized by Alberta Emergency Management Agency.

They were given the Alberta Emergency Management Award for their development of incident management teams which can be deployed at a moment’s notice to support emergency operations, including wildfire suppression and response within the Mackenzie region.

Rodney Schmidt accepted the award on behalf of the town at the agency’s Annual Stakeholder Summit in Edmonton.

“I am honoured to receive this award,” Schmidt said in a press release. “The Regional Incident Management Team process is one that is important to me and our region. This team will help provide critical immediate assistance to communities in crisis and I am thankful to AEMA for the support of this team.”

Municipal Affairs Minister Shaye Anderson says that this award has been handed out since 2015. He adds that he’s very proud of this year’s recipient.

“When faced with a disaster, innovation, ingenuity and collaboration within and between communities are essential to ensuring Albertans are prepared and protected,” Anderson said in the release. “(The award) is about recognizing that spirit.”

The annual summit brings together more than 500 emergency management professionals from right across the province.
