Town of Fairview grants help local businesses during pandemic

The Town of Fairview has grants available to help businesses keep the lights on during public health restrictions.

At Tuesday’s council meeting, an update was given on a program the town set up to help businesses that were forced to close their doors to public health measures related to COVID-19.

Fairview Chief Administrative Officer, Darryl Greenhill tells the Trending 55 Newsroom that so far around $40,000 of the $75,000 that was earmarked for businesses has been distributed.

It was discussed at a recent economic development committee meeting.

Greenhill mentioned it was a fund meant to help businesses with operational costs, such as electricity and heating.

Approximately 20 businesses have applied for, and accessed the grant, which is up to $5,000 for an application.

However, the province has since eased some of the public health restrictions, which allows some businesses to resume operations at a limited capacity.

Grants and financial supports have been available through both the federal and provincial governments.
