Tolko Reps to Discuss New Energy Plant

On March 20th, representatives from Tolko Industries Ltd. will be at the Best Western Mirage Banquet Room to discuss and take questions about their new energy plant for the company’s lumber mill in High Level. Plant Manager for Tolko’s High Level division Dave Gellespie says he is excited to bring this project to the community, and it’s their first phase of Tolko’s plan to decommission the beehive burner permanently.

Gillespie says the new plant will consume most of the bark produced by the High Level sawmill, minimize air emissions, reduce natural gas used in the lumber drying process by replacing it with bioenergy, and provide green bioenergy to the future pellet plant currently planned to begin operation in 2020.

The open house is from 4-8 P.M., and will contain information and drawings. Construction of the energy plant is projected to begin in April, and the estimated time of completion is by June 2019.
