  1. The County of Northern Lights has cancelled the Emergency Alert for the Hawk Hills Fire.
    Rainy conditions and cooler temperatures have slowed progress of the blaze, just north of Manning.
  2. The Sturgeon Lake Creen Nation, west of Valleyview, has a vacant council seat filled. Carol Garbitt defeated four others to win, by garnering 34% of the vote.
    The By-Election took place on Monday, to fill the position left vacant due to the death of Tyrone Kappo last month.
  3. River Days starts today in Downtown Peace River with many events planned.
    The parade kicks off the show at 5:00 this afternoon at the old Bell Petroleum Center and goes to Riverfront Park. (Rylee Labbe interview in separate story)
  4. National Indigenous Day is being observed tomorrow, with lots of events happening locally, that are FREE to attend.
  5. The Plowing Match is happening in Wanham, with many events happening.
    The Heavy Horse Plow, the Tractor Pull, The Baseball Tournament, plus activities for the kids are on the agenda.
  6. Food Banks around the Northwest are puting pushes on for the shelves to be stocked.
    Donations and support are needed right now, especially for food, hygiene products, dish soap, laundry detergent and toilet paper.
  7. The roar of the Jet Boats are being heard on the Peace River as the competition of the World Jet Boat Championship happen this weekend.
    The Show and Shine is today, and the first three legs of the competition go tomorrow.
  8. Wheatbelt Baseball League this weekend. Grande Prairie is in Peace River and Grimshaw tomorrow. High Prairie is in Manning on Sunday.
  9. The Toronto Blue Jays start a three-game set against the White Sox tonight at Roger’s Center. Spencer Turnbull starts for the Jays in a bullpen day, against Davis Martin.
  10. Week 3 of the CFL season this weekend… Saskatchewan is in Toronto tonight. Ottawa is in Calgary and Winnipeg is in BC tomorrow.
  11. A mainly sunny weekend is in store for this weekend, and the activities that are planned. Might be dealing with a little bit of smoke as well.
    Highs are in the high teens to around 20 degrees, with lows decently in the high single digits. Temps could get slightly warmer, come the middle of next week.
