- A former member of the Board of the Peace River School Division, has been ordered to be re-instated.
Moise Dion was disqualified last September after Dion had failed to comply with remedial actions, following a violation of the Trustee Code of Conduct. - Conseil Scolaire du Nord-Ouest has a new Superintendant, starting in the 2026 School Year.
Denis Fontaine takes over from Brigitte Kropeilnicki, starting in August. - The town of Grimshaw is searching for a new Chief Administrative Officer. Brian Allen has announced his resignation, as he has taken a new position.
Allen began on Council in 1998, and served a Deputy Mayor, and was elected Mayor from 2000-2013. - Reaction is coming in to the Peace River and District Chamber of Commerce’s selection as Chamber of the year for 2024.
In addition, President Layne Gardner was elected to the Alberta Chamber’s Executive Committee. (Interview in Separate story) - The Farmer’s Day event is getting set to go tomorrow from 12-4 at the Arena in Nampa.
Lots of events are happening including Bouncy Castles, a foam pit, glitter tattoos, snow cones, and self-guided games, among other attractions. (Amber Houle Interview in separate story) - Wheatbelt Baseball League this weekend…. Rycroft is in Manning tonight. Grimshaw plays in Sexsmith for two, and Grande Prairie is in High Prairie tomorrow. Manning is in High Prairie on Sunday.
- MLB… The Toronto Blue Jays start a three-game weekend set in Philidelphia tonight. Kevin Gausman starts for the Jays against Ranger Suarez.
- Week 2 of the CFL season this weekend… Montreal is in Ottawa tonight. Calgary is in Toronto and Saskatchewan is in Hamilton tomorrow.
- NBA Finals tonight… Game 4 – Oklahoma City is in Indiana, the Pacers lead 2-1.
- Don’t complain, we need the rain, and the Peace and Big Lakes are getting plenty of it this weekend, with highs in the mid teens.
The Mackenzie will be sunny and warm through the weekend, with highs in the mid 20’s. Lows at night will be around 10.
