  1. The union representing about 55,000 Canada Post employees has called for a countrywide halt to overtime work, describing it a “legal strike action” and saying its negotiators will continue to review the latest contract offers from the mail carrier.
  2. A community workshop at the Sagitawa Friendship Center last night drew a big crowd of over 100.
  3. Fire Hazards are increasing with the temperatures getting warmer this weekend, and into next week.
  4. Measles Cases are continuing to increase in the North Zone, as half-a-dozen new cases have surfaced, bring the total to 39 since March.
  5. The Provincial Government is earmarking $25 million dollars to support projects to improve access to Primary Health Care, including the Dene Tha First Nation.
  6. The weather is getting warm and dry, and Environment Canada is saying it will stay that way this summer. (Alyssa Peterson interview in separate story)
  7. Spring Clean-up is continuing in many areas of the Northwest. In Peace River, the Put-and-Take runs from tomorrow through Monday, sand the curbside collection runs next Tuesday through Friday.
  8. Local football action this weekend… The Peace River Panthers play the Sexsmith Serpants tomorrow, 12:30 at Glenmary School.
  9. The Montney Baseball league is play another weekend tournament, this time in Peace River. Action starts tonight at Ken Hornland Field, Kinsmen Park and the Ski Hill.
  10. NHL playoffs tonight… Game 2 of the West Final is on with Edmonton in Dallas, the stars took the opening game.
  11. The Memorial Cup major Junior Hockey championship starts tonight in Rimouski, Quebec. The host Oceanic play the Western Hockey League Champs, the Medicine Hat Tigers.
  12. The Toronto Blue Jays start a three-game weekend set at Steinbrenner Field in Tampa Bay tonight. That’s because the roof of Tropicana Field was damaged by Hurricane Milton, last month.
  13. Mainly sunny skies are in store for the Northwest this weekend. Highs during the break are in the low to mid 20’s, with lows around 10 degrees.
    Digits might get into heatwave status, by the middle of next week.
