  1. The Warm and dry weather in the Northwest have been fuelling the potential for wildfires, and they’ve hit in the Grande Prairie area.
    Evacuation Orders have been issued for areas of Hwy 40, just southwest of the city.
  2. Unexpected wind gusts allowed the Hutton Creek prescribed burn to escape containment.
    The fire, east of Deadwood is now listed as out-of-control, but Alberta Wildfire says there is no danger to nearby communities, at this time.
  3. Patrols in Peace River have landed a woman in custody on vehicle charges and warrants.
    Last Tuesday, police caught up with a dirt bike without a license plate in the downtown. 28 year-old Tessa Lidia Hudson of Peace River faced the judge on Thursday.
  4. Authorities are looking into causes of the 12-foot Davis statue being damaged in Downtown Peace River.The base of the statue suffered a deep hole burned into the base.
  5. The Dene Tha First Nation is down a Council seat.
    Holly Seniantha has been removed from Council, because of what the Nation says, is a concern of Election Regulations, and Oath of Office.
  6. Red Dress day is today for Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women and Girls. Marches and events are happening this afternoon…
    In High Level, the Walk begins at the Courthouse at 4:30, and will cover Main Street, returning to the courthouse.
    In Peace River, the event starts at 4:30 at the Museum, the Walk is at 5:00 and goes to Riverfront Park.
  7. Annual Spring Clean-up activities and days at Landfills are taking place throughout the month of May.
    Clean-up in Northern Sunrise County starts today and runs through the 17th, while Peace River’s Clean-up starts on May 24th.
  8. NHL Playoffs tonight… Round 2 begins with Florida in Toronto.
  9. As well, the Draft Lottery goes tonight with San Jose having the best odds. Only two Canadian teams are in the lottery, and that’s Vancouver and Calgary.
  10. Sunshine, with temps in the mid-teens, is the order of the day in the Northwest. Lows are still a little chilly, at just above freezing, but the sunshine continues this week.
    The warmest will be tomorrow, with digits in the low to mid 20’s.
