- Don’t be surprised if Alberta Wildfire officials upgrade the Fire warnings in Northwestern Alberta, either today, or this weekend.
Some jurisdictions have already upgraded their advisories to restrictions, because of the warm and dry weather prescribed for this weekend. - High Level Council is down a seat, as Councillor Terry Jessiman has resigned.
Jessiman was first elected in 2017, and has since been active on important boards and committees over the years.
The seat will remain vacant until October’s municipal election. - The Village of Berwyn has approved the fiscal budget at just over $2 million dollars, which includes both operational and capital expenses.
The town of Grimshaw has approved their Capital budget at just under $2 million dollars. Council postponed the review of the Operating budget until the first meeting in May. - New Business opportunities, various industries reps, products and services, plus giveaways, draws, and entertainment will all be present in High Level this weekend.
The High Level and District Trade Show is today and tomorrow at the Sports Complex and Curling Rink. (Josh Lambert Interview in separate story) - The measles have been spreading and so has the criticism on the provincial governments handling of the outbreak.
The NDP Shadow Minister for Health, Sarah Hoffman, says more awareness needs to be done by the province when it comes to dealing with health concerns. (Interview in separate story) - Golf Courses are taking advantage of the nice weather by opening in time for this weekend.
High Prairie, Fairview, Mighty Peace in Peace River, 5-Star in Guy, and Lakeside in Eaglesham are all open for the season.
Heart River in Nampa, Condy Meadows in Manning, and Fox Haven in High Level are getting ready to tee off soon. - The Mighty Peace Basketball League starts their season on Sunday. Three games are on the schedule, which will be played at Glenmary School in Peace River.
- The National Jr A Hockey Championship, that is the Centennial Cup starts next Thursday in Calgary.
The Canucks play their first game Thursday against Melfort Saskatchewan. The first game of the Grande Prairie Storm is the following day against Sudbury Ontario. - NHL Playoffs tonight. Game 6 Winnipeg is in St. Louis, the Jets lead 3-2.
- The Toronto Blue Jays start a three-game weekend series against Cleveland at Roger’s Centre tonight. Chris Bassitt starts for the Jays against Logan Allen.
- Sunshine and summer-like temperatures are in store for this afternoon in the Northwest.
High are in the mid 20’s, with lows tonight quite comfortable at between 5-10 degrees. Digits will cool off a little this weekend, but stay near 20, well into next week.
