- Fire officials are continuing to conduct prescribed burns in the area, but are also warning of the dangers of fires. This after a brush fire in the Wembley area yesterday.
With the start of camping season approaching, authorities are reminding residents to keep an eye on fires, to have permits when burning, and to check for restrictions. - Unemployment in Alberta has risen to over 7% for the month of March. Stats-Can says full-time employment was set back by a net total of nearly 16,000 jobs.
In the GP region which includes places like Peace River, Fairview and High Prairie, year-over-year numbers had unemployment rise to 5.5%, compared to March of 2024. - The Men’s Shed is a community-based organization that provides a casual space for men to connect, socialize and to address life’s challenges.

The former Tourist Information Centre, and office of the Peace River & District Chamber of Commerce, is being sold due to needed extensive repairs. - Hundreds of Children were present at the Baytex Energy Center for the Child Safety Open House yesterday.
Representatives of the RCMP, the town and County’s Fire Department, ATCO, and Fish and Wildlife among others, were present. - Five games in the NHL tonight… St. Louis is in Edmonton, Calgary is in Anaheim, Toronto is in Tampa Bay, Philidelphia plays at the Rangers, and San Jose is in Minnesota.
- Women’s World Hockey Championships begin today in the Czech Republic. Canada plays tomorrow against Finland.
- The Toronto Blue Jays play the third of a four-game set at Fenway in Boston tonight. Kevin Gausman starts for the Jays against Tanner Houck.
- Sunshine is in store for the Northwest this afternoon, with Highs in the low to mid teens. Lows tonight will be again, just below zero.
The Mackenzie might see some rain, and possibly some snow, as digits dip into this weekend, but rebound into next week.
