  1. Canada is in Election Mode, as the writ has been dropped on Parliament Hill. Canadians will head to the polls on Monday April 28th.
    Parliament was scheduled to return to session today, but now residents look towards an election, with Advanced polls happening on the Easter Weekend.
  2. Michael McMann has won the EXL Award for Excellence in School System Leadership by the Canadian Association of School System Administrators.
    McMann wins the Alberta award, but is now nominated for the National Nelson Excellence in Leadership Award for Canadian Superintendent of the Year, to be presented this summer.
  3. Northern Alberta Colleges and polytechnics have reached a first-of-a-kind agreement.
    Keyano College, Lakeland College, Northern Lakes College, Northwestern Polytechnic and Portage College have signed the collaboration, thus enhancing student access, mobility, and improved learner outcomes.
  4. The province is looking to help boost the economy in the North with a number of investments.
    In addition to some spending committments that are in the budget, Jobs Economy and Trade Minister Matt Jones says they have some programs available for trying create more jobs locally. (Interview in separate story)
  5. Canada’s oldest company will begin liquidating most of its stores. Hudson’s Bay says all but six of its locations will be selling off their inventory.
  6. The Falher Pirates are the 2025 Campbell Cup champions in the North Peace Hockey League.
    The Pirates defeated the Manning Comets in six games on the weekend to capture their fourth championship in history, and their first since 2012.
  7. Four games in the NHL tonight… Vancouver is in New Jersey, Columbus plays at the Islanders, Minnisota is in Dallas, and Detroit is in Utah.
  8. The Toronto Blue Jays begin the 2025 MLB season on Thursday at home against Baltimore. The Jays went 74-88 last year and finished last in the AL East Division.
  9. A chance of a mixed bag of precipitation is in the forecast for the Northwest this afternoon. The wind could pick up in the Peace and Big Lakes this afternoon as well.
    Highs are nudging 10 degrees, with lows tonight around zero. Digits will cool off slightly, as the week progresses
