  1. Peace River Town Council has been notified of the posting for disposal of the Town-owned portion of the old Lion’s Campground on the West side.
    Council was also notified that Protective services reported 68 complaints, 10 Town tags and 1 Provincial ticket were served in February.
  2. High Prairie Council committed over $320,000 to repairs and remediation of the Train Crossing across from the Big Lakes County office.
    Council has also approved the creation of a basketball court, two pickleball courts within the basketball court and new swings for the playground at the town of High Prairie Park.
  3. Northwestern Polytechnic reps are in Fort McMurray today to sign a Memorandum of Understanding
    The document is focused on strengthening formal transfer agreements and communication that will benefit students, industries and the region.
    The shared letter is in collaboration with NWP, Keyano College, Lakeland College, Northern Lakes College, and Portage College.
  4. An above-normal winter will be turning into an above-normal Spring in Northwestern Alberta.
    The region got a little more snow than in prior years, which make experts optimistic for more precipitation this Spring. (Alyssa Peterson Interview in separate story)
  5. The North Peace Performing Arts Festival wraps up this weekend in the Peace Region.
    Dozens of youth performances have been taken in in Peace River, Manning and Donnelly. The Grand Concert is tomorrow at the Athabasca Hall.
  6. New legislation proposed by the Provincial government would make hunting in a wheelchair legal and permit kids as young as 12 to use guns without adults around.
    Hunters would also not have to wear high-visibility clothing, although government officials say that requirement hasn’t been enforced for years.
  7. NWJHL Finals this weekend… Games 1 & 2 Saturday and Sunday, FSJ is in La Crete.
  8. NPHL Finals this weekend… Tomorrow, Falher is in Manning, with the series tied at one win each.
  9. AEHL this weekend… The U-13’s play this weekend in the Strathcona County/Sherwood Park area for a best-of-3.
  10. All Peace Hockey League playoffs wind up this weekend, to make up teams going to Provincials.
  11. The High Prairie Red Wings quest for a second consecutive National Junior Hockey League Championship ended on Tuesday, as they lost to Lac La Biche in four games.
  12. AJHL this weekend… The Grande Prairie Storm wrap up the regular season with two at home to Lloydminster, in what is a preview of the first round of the playoffs.
  13. Three Canadian teams hit the ice in the six games in the NHL tonight… Edmonton plays at the Islanders, Colorado is in Calgary, and Dallas is in Winnipeg.
  14. The snow is continuing to taper off in the Northwest, and it will brighten up at times this weekend. Highs this afternoon are around -10. Lows tonight are around -20.
    However, digits get warmer to the point where +10 could be happening, come the middle of next week.
