  1. High Prairie RCMP have two youths in custody on firearms charges, after an incident near a business in Grouard.
    One youth also had 23 warrants against him. Both are due in court later this month.
  2. Alberta Health Services has officially cut the ribbon on a brand-new EMS facility in Valleyview.
    The new facility is a “state-of-the-art” building, designed to accommodate the growing and changing needs of the area.
  3. Some steps are being taken by the provincial government for getting more affordable child care spaces.
    The minister of Jobs, Economy and Trade, Matt Jones, says more spaces in rural communities is one of their priorities. (Interview in separate story)
  4. With the temperatures colder right now in the Northwest, people are cheating a little and running their unattended vehicles.
    This is especially true if remote start is not an option, or owners are just popping out to run an errand. (Julie-Ann Strilaiff interview in separate story)
  5. At the Provincial Men’s Curling championship in Stettler… Sexsmith’s Daylen Vavrek is now playing in the C Pool.
    Vavrek plays at 5:30 tonight, and will need two wins to qualify for the playoffs.
  6. NWJHL playoffs this weekend… Tonight, Game 2 – FSJ is at Fairview, Game 1 – Beaverlodge is in Grande Prairie. Sexsmith is in La Crete tomorrow and Sunday.
  7. NPHL this weekend… Tonight, Game 2 – Grande Prairie is in Spirit River.
    Fox Creek and Falher play tomorrow in Falher and Sunday in Fox Creek. Valleyview is in Manning on Saturday.
  8. AEHL this weekend…
    The U-13’s play tonight in Falher and Sunday at home to Leduc. The U-15’s play tonight at home to Grande Prairie. The U-18’s play tomorrow and Sunday in Fort McMurray.
  9. NJHL this weekend… The High Prairie Red Wings play tomorrow at home to Lac La Biche.
  10. AJHL this weekend… The Grande Prairie Storm play tonight and tomorrow in Devon.
  11. A slight chance of flurries is in the forecast for this weekend in the Northwest.
    Highs during the day will still be around -15 or -20, with lows still pushing -30, and maybe even -35.
    The sunshine may make the odd appearance during the weekend, as well.
