  1. The case of Kyra Renee Backs and the death of a seven-month old, has been pushed back to later this month, just to set trial dates.
    The trial was to start early last month, but defense lawyers are waiting for more disclosure, and time to review it.
  2. Jarod Brandon Gene Whitehead is still at large, and is wanted for activities in Little Buffal, the Woodland Cree First Nation, Loon Lake and Peace River.
    Whitehead’s last known location was Little Buffalo, and police are asking residents to not approach, just call 911.
  3. The High Prairie School Division is piloting a safety enhancing program. The Extended Stop Arm program is happening with one main route in the Division.
    The program has the flashing Stop Sign on an arm that is extended by 6 1/2 feet to ensure motorists clearly see when the bus is stopped.
  4. Conseil Scolaire du Nord-Ouest is reporting that progress is being made on the proposed new daycare at Ecole Heritage in Falher.
    License documents have been submitted and the hiring process is nearing completion. The next step is to send letters to Parents regarding the initiative.
  5. Katie Koch is the president of the Manning & District Ski Club, says the season has been going well despite a bit of a slow start. (Interview in Separate story)
  6. NWJHL playoffs tonight… Game 1 – Dawson Creek is in Peace River.
  7. League Awards have been announced for the NWJHL:
    Tyson Tokarz of the North Peace Navigators is the League MVP. Cole Penner of La Crete is the Rookie of the year.
    Dion Knelsen of the Lumber Barons is the coach of the year. Landon Sather of Fairview is the most sportsman-like player.
    And Ethan Boutcher of Grande Prairie is the defenseman of the year.
  8. NPHL playoffs tonight… Game 2 – Valleyview is in High Prairie, the Regals face elimination. Game 1 – Grande Prairie is in Spirit River.
  9. At the Provincial Men’s Curling Championships in Stettler… Sexsmith Daylen Vavrek is in the B pool, and plays this afternoon against Ryan Jacques of Edmonton.
  10. Skies will begin to clear out later on this afternoon, even though the chance of flurries still exists in the Northwest.
    Temperatures are still below normal, but in the Honking Cold range that we were in last week, as they are in the minus teens.
    Digits are wanting the Block Heater chord to be used at night, as they push -30. Conditions appear consistant, well into next week.
