  1. Postal service is back underway as the month-long strike is over at Canada Post.
    Now, workers have to deal with the subsequent backlog of mail and parcels being delivered into the system, right before the holidays.
  2. Reactions are still coming forward after Canada’s Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister announced her resignation from Cabinet yesterday.
    Chrystia Freeland stated the decision was made after Prime Minister Justin Trudeau offered her another cabinet position.
  3. 4H clubs across the Peace Region has been given grant money from Farm Credit Canada.
    Up to $500 each has been given to the Prairie Rose 4H club in Valleyview, and to the Big River 4H club in La Crete.
  4. The federal government is paying tribute to Canadian hero Terry Fox by featuring him on the next $5 bank note.
    The process of replacing Sir Wilfrid Laurier on the bill began nearly five years ago, when the Bank of Canada held an open nomination and received upwards of 600 submissions.
  5. Inflation edged down slightly to 1.9 per cent in November as price growth continued to stabilize in Canada.
    Statistics Canada’s consumer price index report Tuesday showed inflation was down from two per cent in October.
  6. Dates have been set for the 2025 World Jet Boat Championships next summer. The Peace River legs and the opening ceremonies are happening June 20-22 in town.
    Teams from New Zealand, Mexico, the USA and Canada are expected to compete.
  7. Hockey Alberta has begun choosing hosts for the 2025 Provincial tournaments next Spring. Peace River has been chosen as the U-18 C hosts.
    The event is March 27-30 at the Baytex Energy Center.
  8. A big trade in the WHL recently saw Grimshaw’s Keets Fawcett wind up on a new team.
    Fawcett was traded from the Calgary Hitmen to the Regina Pats, he says there’s some parts of his game he’s trying to improve on this season. (Interview in separate story)
  9. Extreme Cold Warnings are continuing in the Northwest, as winter sets in for the rest of this week.
    Despite the sunny skies, temps are still in the mid -20’s, with wind chills in the -30’s. Clear skies tonight with lows in the -30’s and wind chills in the -40’s.
    Digits are forecasted to warm up, starting on Friday.
