- Police in Slave Lake have three in custody after trying to avoid a check-stop.
After being pulled over, a sawed-off shotgun, ammunition and drugs were seized, plus the driver had warrants.
26 year-old Brady Alook of Peace River, as well as 32 year-old Glen Gladue and 47 year-old Jerry Netowastenum, both from Trout Lake face numerous charges. - Parts of the Mile Zero Multiplex in Grimshaw will be re-opening, starting today. The Fitness Center, Walking Track and Field House will be open.
The goal is to have the arena, skate sharpening service and concession ready for Saturday. The facility was shut down on Friday due to a water-main break and flooding. - High Level Town Council has been updated on proceedings at the Aquatic Center. Parts have been ordered and arrived, but were the wrong size.
However, the heating systems have been repaired, but the pool remains closed.
Meanwhile, heating issues have affected the Sports Complex, and repairs are underway. A structural assessment has been updated.
Council is currently weighing the value of repair costs, as the building has reached it’s life expectancy, and a replacement might be in the plans. - The High Prairie School Division has been awarded for Community Engagement.
The award recognizes a school board that effectively involves stakeholders in decision-making processes. - A major shakeup is coming to auto insurance in Alberta. A 3.7% rate cap on premiums will be lifted and a no-fault system will be brought in.
Insurance companies claim rates need to increase to pay for more costly car repair and personal injury claims.
Government officials have been talking about a no-fault system, which ends or limits an injured persons right to sue. - Since the Nurse Practitioner Primary Care Program was launched in April, 56 of 67 applications have been approved, with 33 nurse practitioners already practicing.
This number means 30,000 more Albertans have access to primary health care with 21,000 more given access when the remaining applications come online. - NWJHL tonight… Dawson Creek is in Fort St. John.
