  1. Organizers of the annual Christmas Market in Grimshaw was doing some scrambling, but Christmas Angels came to the rescue.
    The Market at Mile Zero had to be cancelled last minute on Friday, due to a Water Main Break and significant flooding in the facility.
    The Mile Zero Multiplex in Grimshaw is remaining closed until further notice to assess and fix any damage, that may have occurred.
  2. Concerned business owners are looking for help in the downtown core of Peace River.
    With Crime, public nuisances and disorder, as well as encampments popping up around the area, businesses are asking for aid in curbing problems. (Peter Neufeld Interview on App)
  3. The Town of Peace River wants feedback on utilities. An Open House is slated for this afternoon 4-6 at the Town Office downtown.
    Council has approved first reading, aiming for full cost recovery over the next five years. This would mean annual increases of around 10% for sewer rates until 2029.
  4. After Alberta students had to deal with some learning disruptions during the pandemic, the province is working to help close some of those gaps.
    According to Education Minister Demetrios Nicolaides, money is being provided to school boards for the hiring of more specialized staff. (Interview on App)
  5. The town of Grimshaw has reviewed amaendments to their snow removal policies.
    Administration states snow will start to be removed when accumulations of 4 inches occur, and sand is applied.
    Certain circumstances will have the snow pushed to the side, or removed all together.
  6. The Town of Grimshaw is getting money from the Provincial Government. Over $730,000 is coming from the Municipal Affairs Ministry.
    The funds will be for long-term investments in infrastructure, public facilities, and services, which include roads, water systems, parks, and public safety facilities.
  7. The Misery Mountain Ski Resort is hailing Snow Fest as a success. A Sold-out event was taken in on Saturday night at the Chalet.
    The Sold-out Truck-raffle fundraiser also produced some happy people.
    The truck was won by Tom Scobie, 2nd prize of $5,000 went to Alice Zimmerman, and 3rd prize of $1,000 went to Leslie Brecht.
  8. The Peace River Pioneers High School football team is back in the Provincial final for the first time in 14 years.
    The Pioneers will make their fourth trip to the championship game, previously losing to Cardston in 2010, Brooks in 2009, and Cochrane in 2003.
    This was back in the days of Peace River being in Tier-3 12-a-side play. Peace River plays Ponoka under the Friday night lights at Hansen Field in Grande Prairie.

  11. A chance of flurries is happening throughout the week in the Northwest. Highs this afternoon will be decent in the low numbers below zero, but after that things will cool off.
    Lows tonight will be just below -10. Best to start thinking about the block heater chord for later in the week, as digits at night could nudge -20, and even -30 in the Mackenzie.
