  1. Nicole Johnson is the new Mayor of Berwyn after being nominated by Councilor Ken Montie.
    Councilor Montie was nominated himself by Councilor Dan Weber, but declined. Montie did accept the role of Deputy Mayor.
  2. The Boil Water Advisory has been lifted in Paddle Prairie. The Advisory was lifted on Saturday.
    The Metis Settlement was under the Advisory earlier this week because of a power outage, that affected operations of the Water Treatment Plant.
  3. Fire Service Recognition Day was Saturday in thanks for the services of firefighters, both structural and wildfire.
    Forestry and Park Minister Todd Loewen says besides their contributions, the importance of fire prevention and community preparedness is also taken into account.
  4. The Alberta government is proposing additional restrictions on wind and solar farms that conservationists think are more about limiting renewable energy.
    Last year, the government imposed a seven-month moratorium on new renewable energy projects.
  5. The chances of a half-percentage point interest rate cut by the Bank of Canada became more likely after StatsCan reported annual inflation fell to 1.6% in September.
    While the Bank of Canada has favoured a slow and gradual pace of 25-basis-point cuts each time, the inflation report raises the odds of a 50-basis-point reduction.
  6. Football Alberta has provincial rankings out for this past week. Peace River remains at #3 in 9-a-side, after their 49-0 win in High Prairie on Friday.
    Whitecourt took Valleyview out of the top-five with a 24-13 win on Thursday. The Cats are ranked 5th in 9-a-side. The playoffs in some of the Leagues begin this weekend.
  7. Three Canadian teams are in action in the NHL tonight. Philidelphia is in Edmonton, Chicago is in Calgary, and Vancouver is in Tampa Bay.
  8. MLB Playoffs tonight… Game 2 Cleveland plays the Yankees in New York, who took the Opener last night.
  9. Today is the last of the decent weather in the Northwest, and after that it cools off, and starts threatening rain, and dare I say it, snow.
    Highs this afternoon are in the teens, with lows tonight below zero. We could get rain tomorrow and single-digit temperatures, and we could see some falling flakes by the weekend.
