  1. Water levels on the Peace River going through the area could see a bit of a drop over the next few days. It’s due to the filling of the Site C dam in BC.
    Water levels could drop between a metre and a metre and a half starting today, and there could be some service interruptions on the Shaftesbury Ferry.
  2. The Site C Dam, near Fort St. John, was toured recently by staff of the town of Peace River. Town staff says that water levels will be monitored, as the dam fills.
    BC Hydro has begun filling the reservoir, which will take until the end of the year. Once done and BC Hydro begin making power, water levels and flow rates in the river will be returning to normal.
  3. The Semo Complex Fire continues to be worked on, despite it listed as Being Held.
    The only fire right now that is Out of Control in the province, is Fire 72, west of Zama City near the BC Border.
    Firefighters still may have a battle on their hands, as sunshine, dry conditions and warm temperatures will be in the Northwest, into the long weekend.
  4. The Fall season is right around the corner, and people will be starting to think about upgrading vehicles in time for the snow to start flying.

  5. Alberta’s Opposition leader says Premier Danielle Smith needs to explain her plan to potentially transfer control of under-performing hospitals to third parties.
    NDP Leader Naheed Nenshi says Smith also needs to explain why she chose to reveal the new policy at a members-only event with no mention of it to the general public.
  6. The Alberta government is expected to share the province’s 2024-25 first quarter fiscal update on Thursday.
    In the budget delivered in February, the province forecasted a surplus of $367 million for the 2024-25 fiscal year.
  7. Conservative Leader Pierre Poilievre is asking NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh to pull out of the deal he has with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, to force an election this fall.
    The Opposition leader’s suggestion is to side with his party and “vote non-confidence in the government this September,” when the House of Commons resumes.
  8. The NWJHL is splitting into two divisions this year. The League is going with a North/South Division, with Beaverlodge, Grande Prairie, La Crete, and Sexsmith.
    The East/West Division is Dawson Creek, Fairview, Fort St. John and Peace River. The Pre-season starts on Tuesday.
  9. The Toronto Blue Jays play the rubber match of their five-game series at Fenway in Boston tonight. Bowden Francis starts for the Jays against Kutter Crawford.
  10. Temperatures will remain seasonal today, but the Labour Day weekend could bring the heat. Highs in the low 20’s today but could be near 30 in some spots on the weekend.
    There’s a chance for some showers in the Mackenzie today, but that’s about it for precipitation for the next little bit.
