  1. The Town of Fairview is increasing fees for facilities.
    As of September 1st, a 2% increase will be implemented to all drop-in, punch cards, memberships, and rentals to all rec. facilities.
  2. The waiting game for the transfer of St. Thomas More School in Fairview to the Holy Family Catholic Regional Division continues.
    The School is waiting for Ministerial order to be approved to transfer the school from the Grande Prairie and District Catholic School Division to the Holy Family Division.
  3. Food Banks across the region are feeling the pinch, but Peace River is pleading for shelves to be stocked.
    Inventory at the Peace River Food Bank is very low, and workers are looking for donations.
  4. People being on the Peace River this weekend need to be extra cautious.
    The paddle goes from either Shaftesbury Ferry or Strong Creek to the Lower West Boat Launch in Peace River.
  5. Jasper residents began to return home this morning after a wildfire destroyed about a third of the townsite in late July.
    Dozens of Jasper residents lined up outside the townsite before they were allowed to go in at 7 a.m., and hundreds returned home in the first half hour.
  6. The Provincial Government has released a more targeted drought response plan.
    36 water shortage advisories are in effect in river basins in the Province, including 11 in the Peace River Basin, and 3 in the Hay River Basin in the extreme northwest.
  7. The Provincial Government has opened a third recovery facility to treat addictions.
    Two recovery communities are planned for Edmonton and Grande Prairie, while five more will be built in partnership with Indigenous communities.
  8. Alberta Premier Danielle Smith says the government will introduce legislation on pronouns in schools after classes begin in September.
    Smith said the policy requiring parents to consent before children under 16 can change their names or pronouns in schools, will be proposed in the fall legislature session.
  9. Jack Russell, the lead singer of the metal band Great White whose hits included “Once Bitten Twice Shy” and “Rock Me”, has died. He was 63.
  10. The Alberta Summer Swimming Association is hosting Provincials in Edmonton this weekend.
    Swimmers from Peace River, Grimshaw, High Prairie, Smoky River and Valleyview are going.
  11. Week 12 of the CFL season continues tonight with Montreal in Saskatchewan. Edmonton is in Hamilton tomorrow and Winnipeg is in BC on Sunday.
  12. The Toronto Blue Jays begin a three-game weekend set at Wrigley Field in Chicago this afternoon. Yariel Rodriguez starts for the Jays against Kyle Hendricks.
  13. A mixed bag is in store weather-wise in the Northwest. A mix of Sun and Cloud with smoke in the Mackenzie.
    A slight chance of showers in the Peace and rain in the Big Lakes. Highs are only in the high teens today, and will continue to be around 10 degrees tonight.
