  1. Air Quality Advisories in place in Northwestern Alberta…
    Officials are calling the rating as Unhealthy, because of wildfires that are in and around the BC and Alberta Peace Country.
  2. Boil Water Advisory issued for the Village of Donnelly.
  3. Peace River Town Council is moving ahead with business. A letter of support is going to the Sagitawa Native Friendship Center for grant funding of the Out of the Cold Shelter Operations.
    ATCO Electric will be changing street lightbulbs to LED, starting in the second week of September.
    The town has not heard anything from the Department of Fisheries and Oceans to reconstruct the ramp of the North End Boat Launch. The action will be prior to the town receiving full ownership of the facility.
  4. The town of Jasper says early numbers indicate last month’s wildfires destroyed $283 million worth of property.
    The town also reports that while 358 structures were destroyed, mostly businesses and homes, the total number of housing units lost is about 800.
  5. Celery was used to conceal more than 2,300 pounds of methamphetamines that federal agents discovered in a truck at a farmers market outside Atlanta.
    A Mexican citizen was arrested.
  6. Google has unveiled its next generation of Pixel phones, providing the maker of Android software a head start on the next iPhone in the race to bring more artificial-intelligence services to devices that have become people’s constant companions.
  7. The Mental Health in Schools pilot program has received an additional $6.7 million dollars for the 2025 school year.
    The program launched in 2022 and has helped the 79 divisions across the province start initiatives in school, as part of the program.
  8. Baseball season is officially over in the Peace Region, after the Rycroft Rage won the 2024 Wheatbelt Baseball League Championship last night.
    Now the focus will be football and hockey, as training camps for both sports will be getting underway in the next couple of weeks.
  9. The Major Leagues of Baseball isn’t done as the Toronto Blue Jays look for a three-game sweep in Anaheim tonight. Jose Berrios starts for the Jays against Tyler Anderson.
  10. The deadline to nominate for the Steve Bolkowy Memorial Sports award is fast approaching.
    Nominations are being accepted for people who have significantly impacted sports and recreation in the town of Grimshaw. Tracy at Grimshaw Community Services is accepting nominations until September 9th.
  11. There is a chance of showers this afternoon, with digits in the low to mid 20’s. Lows tonight are around 11 degrees, with that chance of hanging around.
    The Peace and Big Lakes could see a wet weekend.
