  1. The Alberta Teachers’ Association says 13 school boards are set to get less provincial money for the upcoming school year, and could have less teachers.
    School boards possibly affected would be the Northland School Division, the Holy Family Catholic region Division, and Conseil Scolaire dy Nord-Ouest.
  2. The process of St. Thomas More School in Fairview possibly moving to the Holy Family Catholic Regional Division is continuing.
    The Division says that the Grande Prairie and District Catholic School Division board is holding meetings before the end of this month to consider the move.
  3. The town of McLennan Council will be five members strong, after the next election.
    Council has agreed to downsize after passing it’s Municipal Council Bylaw.
  4. The Agriculture Financial Services Corporation is reporting that just under half of the crops are in the ground, as of the middle of May during seeding season.
    AFSC is reporting that the ground is good in the province, except for in the Peace Region where the ground is still quite dry.
  5. Legislation originally giving the Alberta government more power over municipalities did not pass through the legislature due to time constraints.
    Bill 20 was introduced last month. It sought to give the province more powers, including the ability to repeal bylaws and remove city councillors from office.
  6. Alberta’s addiction minister says the province remains focused on its recovery model even as the number of drug deaths hit record highs.
    The most recent figures show over 2,000 Albertans died in 2023, a 17% increase over the previous year.
  7. Defenseman Jacob Paul and forward Jonah Cardinal of the La Crete Lumber Barons have commitments for next season with the Yarmouth Mariners of the Maritime Junior Hockey League.
    Both were important players for the Lumber Barons winning the NWJHL championship and a silver medal at the Junior B Provincials in 2024.
  8. NHL Playoffs tonight…  Game 1 Edmonton is in Dallas.
  9. Nick Paul had two goals and an assist to lead Canada to a 6-3 win over Slovakia in the Quarter-finals of the World Hockey Championships.
    The semis and the finals will be played this weekend.
  10. The Toronto Blue Jays start a four-game weekend series in Detroit tonight. Kevin Gausman starts for the Jays against Jack Flaherty.
