  1. New Superintendent of the Northland School Division is Cal Johnson has been appointed to the Position, and as the CEO.
    Johnson was appointed interim Superintendent in January, after Shelley Willier became no longer with the Division, just before Christmas.
  2. Peace Regional Police are continuing to report that theft of, and from vehicles is an issue.
    While many vehicles and property have been recovered, Constable Julie-Ann Strilaiff says there is a method to the Police observing. (Interview on App)
  3. RCMP Major Crimes Unit is investigating what they believe to be the suspicious death of a 34-year-old Grande Prairie man.
    On Thursday, officers responded to a report of human remains that were found in a rural area near Clairmont.
  4. Alberta Health Services is urging Albertans to protect themselves from pertussis (whooping cough) after an increase in cases.
    AHS says 86 per cent of outbreak and non-outbreak-associated cases were from patients who were not immunized or partially immunized.

  7. Local athletes are back home from the Arctic Winter Games last week in Alaska. Team Alberta North won 43 Gold, 42 Silver, and 39 Bronze for 124 medals total.
  8. Former Philadelphia Flyers star Wayne Simmonds announced his retirement Monday, ending a 15-year career that included NHL All-Star Game MVP honours.
    Simmonds was the first Black player to earn an All-Star Game MVP award since 1986. He was one of several Black players who helped form the Hockey Diversity Alliance in 2020, creating another avenue in the NHL to fight racism and intolerance in the sport.
