- The Provincial Government has declared the Wildfire season officially underway.
The decision was based on below average moisture, and above normal temperatures throughout the winter months. - Officials at ATCO Electric in Northwestern Alberta, are warning customers of scams that have surfaced in the area.
Reports are indicating that scammers are posing as ATCO reps, either by phone or in-person, and threatening to disconnect or withhold power and services, unless payment is made. - Parking rates at hospitals in the cities are going up. In this area, Grande Prairie hospitals will see their rates increase by 50-to-75 cents on average.
AHS says the increases are to align with local markets, and reflect inflation costs. - Alberta’s flu season has yet to end, but it’s already ranking as the deadliest in recent memory.
So far, 148 people have died this season, which is an increase from the 123 a year ago. - The head of the Alberta Teachers’ Association is calling on the province to help with growing classroom sizes and inflation.
A December survey by the ATA found 61% of them reported increased class sizes this year compared to the year before. - Two people were taken to hospital after a stabbing at West Edmonton Mall on Family Day.
A 44-year-old man and a 14-year-old boy were taken to hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries. A 20 and 23-year-old man are facing charges. - The province announced more than $3 million in funding for medical first responders.
