  1. Crews in Peace River have fixed a Water Main Break in Peace River’s South End. The Break caused a slight slide on the banks of the river on 99th Street last Tuesday.
    The geotechnical team has completed their assessment of the area and will be providing recommendations to the town.
  2. In Fairview, officials decide upon the Tax Recovery Properties Acquisition, a draft of Bylaw Enforcement, and an amandment to Council Procedures.
    In Nampa, officials there decide upon the establishment of an advisory committee for Nampa/Northern Sunrise FCSS, the establishment of a beautification committee in the village, and funding to the Alberta Pond Hockey Gala, and the Nampa School Hot Lunch Program.
  3. The Alberta government will table its budget next Thursday.
    In a fiscal update in November, Finance Minister Nate Horner said the province was on track to record a $5.5-billion surplus when the 2023 budget year ends in March.
  4. Alberta could be weeks away from striking a deal with nurse practitioners, giving Peace region residents more access to primary care options.
    It was more than four months ago when Health Minister Adriana LaGrange promised immediate steps to stabilize a struggling system. Those steps included a nurse-practitioner payment model.
  5. Statistics Canada reported Tuesday the annual inflation rate tumbled to 2.9% in January, down from 3.4% in December.
    The consumer price index report says the largest contributor was a 4% drop in gas prices on a year-over-year basis.
  6. Loblaw Cos. Ltd. says it will build more than 40 new stores as part of a $2B investment.
    This comes amid rising food prices across Canada.
  7. Athletes have returned home from the 2024 Alberta Winter Games in Grande Prairie… Zone 8 won 5 gold, 7 silver and 15 bronze during the four days of competition.
    Zone 8 was also chosen as the “Most Improved” team, and the most “Sportsmanlike” team of the Games.
  8. The Senior Boys, and Junior Mixed Curling teams from Paul Rowe School in Manning is going to provincials in Drayton Valley this week.
    The Senior Boys team won gold this past weekend at the zone bonspiel in town, while the Junior mixed team won silver.
  9. NWJHL playoffs tonight… Game 2, North Peace is in Grande Prairie, the Navigators took the opening game.
  10. NPHL playoffs tonight… Game 6 Spirit River is in Grande Prairie, the A’s lead 3-2.
  11. Three Canadian teams are in action in the NHL for today. Vancouver is in Colorado, Minnisota is in Winnipeg, and Ottawa is in Florida.
  12. Sunshine and warmer numbers are expected in the Northwest, as this week progresses. Could see 7 degrees by Friday in the Peace and Big Lakes.
    Lows at night will also be more comfortable, with the clear skies continuing.
