  1. The town of Peace River, and the MD of Peace have extended their fire services agreement for one year.
    Mayor Elaine Manzer says the extension buys time to review the agreement and current service provisions.
  2. The Peace River and District Chamber of Commerce held their AGM, with financial statements and new boards presented.
    The Chamber now focuses on upcoming events, like the 2024 Davis Business Awards February 3rd, and the Spring Trade Show April 12th and 13th.
  3. Alberta’s oil and gas producers spent nearly $700 million in 2022 on cleaning up the hundreds of thousands of old wells here in the Peace Region and across the province.
    That’s 65% more than they were required to spend under provincial rules, which took 8,000 inactive wells off the books.
  4. The frigid week here in the region and elsewhere saw Alberta SPCA receiving a huge spike in calls about distressed animals.
    The SPCA says most of the calls were from people concerned about animals being outside in the dangerous elements.
  5. Alberta Government rejects bringing temporary rent caps to Alberta as an affordability measure.
    NDP MLA Janis Irwin introduced the bill before Christmas.
  6. Operation Flip lands five in custody in Fort McMurray.
    Drugs, cell phones and nearly a quarter-of-a-million dollars in cash were seized.

    Seattle is in Edmonton, Toronto is in Calgary, Arizona is in Vancouver, and Montreal is in Ottawa.
  10. Former Oiler Tyler Ennis retires from hockey.
    Ennis was oplaying in Germany, but had to retire due to a serious neck injury in November.
  11. Digits will continue to warm up as the weekend approaches in the Northwest.
    There also a good chance we’ll see some snow during the weekend, but for now, skies are looking good for today and tomorrow.
