Start of School for Peace River’s Glenmary School Delayed Again

For the second time in a couple of weeks, start-up dates at Peace River’s Glenmary School have been changed.

A new start-up schedule has been created, but Holy Family Catholic Regional Division (HFCRD) said in a news release that it is still subject to change at any time.

The first day of school for Glenmary students is now Monday, September 11, 2017. Staff will re-enter the facility on Wednesday, September 6 to set up their classrooms, while on Friday, September 8, new student orientation will go from 10 AM until 12 Noon, with student timetables and lockers to be assigned from 1 to 4 PM.

“We again apologize for the inconvenience this change may cause families,” Superintendent Betty Turpin said in the news release. “The health and safety of our staff and students continues to be a priority in the decision-making throughout the modernization.

“This morning, we decided for that reason, that we should wait one more day to ensure the school is ready for staff on (Wednesday),” she continued.

Communications Coordinator Jody Bekevich told the Trending 55 Newsroom that even with this new schedule, students will still meet the Alberta Education requirements for instructional times.

As in the first case, all parents and guardians have been notified of the change. Until the staff at Glenmary return to school on Wednesday, they’ll continue to work out of the HFCRD Central Office. Student registrations are still being accepted at this location.
